Introduction

Amouage Purpose is an oriental woody fragrance composed by Quentin Bisch, celebrated for handling challenging, earthy materials with a deft touch. It is a massive, powerful scent that nonetheless wears surprisingly well as a refined daily statement.

Fragrance Journey

Top Notes: Frankincense, black pepper, pink pepper, pimento and bergamot.

Heart Notes: Vetiver, papyrus, sandalwood and rose.

Base Notes: Akigalawood, suede, saffron and mystikal.

The opening crackles with peppery spice and sacred frankincense smoke. Through the heart, dry papyrus and rooty vetiver give an almost mineral, earthy character, lifted by a subtle floral rose. The drydown turns warmer and softer, with suede and saffron cushioning the woody akigalawood into a long, resinous finish.

Performance

Longevity is excellent, typically eight to ten hours or more, with strong projection that mellows into a refined sillage. Purpose favours cooler weather and performs at its best in autumn and winter. It leans towards evening and night wear but is versatile enough for cooler daytime use, and suits a confident, mature wearer.

Given its power, apply modestly on hot afternoons; one or two sprays carry far. In the rainy season and during cool dry-season mornings and nights it shines, and you can apply a little more.
