Conceived as "soft, cashmere darkness," it balances two moods at once: airy and clean at first, then warm, woody and quietly smoky as it develops. The opening is bright yet soft, with juicy Italian mandarin lifted by an aromatic touch of rosemary and an early hint of vanilla. As it settles, the heart turns woody and resinous through Virginia cedar and guaiac wood, threaded with a gentle veil of incense. The drydown is where Kayu shows its character: creamy tonka and powdery warmth cushion the smoky depth of Thailand and Laotian oud, rounded off by a clean musk.

Performance

Kayu offers very good longevity, typically lasting through a full working day and often into the evening on skin, and performing even longer on clothing. Projection is moderate and refined rather than aggressive, with sillage that stays close and intimate after the first couple of hours. The woody, slightly smoky and powdery profile leans towards cooler weather and is especially rewarding in the evening, though its soft start keeps it wearable by day.
